Electoral Reforms

TJP understands the importance of electoral reforms that support electoral participation and strengthen electoral process in Pakistan. For that, the Pakistani Election Commission (ECP) requires significant reforms to conduct free and fair elections that also provide voting rights to all citizens, including those living abroad. TJP outlines a detailed approach for maintaining the ECP’s independence while guaranteeing that every Pakistani citizen has the right to vote.

TJP will improve the implementation of election laws. To ensure fairness and transparency, independent oversight and evaluation procedures will be implemented. This will ensure that the integrity of the voting process is maintained at all times. We will create strong mechanisms to combat voter intimidation, ensuring a safe and inclusive electoral environment. No voice should go unnoticed. We will conduct nationwide efforts to educate all citizens about the electoral process and their right to vote. A special emphasis will be focused on making voter registration facilities easily available to all eligible citizens, especially minorities and marginalized communities.

Presidential Form of Government v/s Current System

Tehrik Jawanan Pakistan (TJP) envisions a presidential system of government as it holds immense potential to strengthen Pakistan and unlock the full potential of country. TJP recognizes the challenges inherent in the current parliamentary system, with its susceptibility to coalition politics, fragmented leadership, and frequent votes of no confidence. This can lead to policy paralysis and hinder long-term development plans. Therefore, a presidential system can provide the stability and decisive leadership needed to tackle Pakistan’s current complex challenges. A President has a vested interest in national prosperity, can foster a more transparent and performance-driven government and is directly accountable to the people.

A President represents the entire nation and can serve as a unifying force. This could bridge the divide between provinces, leading to more equitable resource allocation and a stronger sense of national identity. A President would be less susceptible to regional political pressures, promoting a more holistic approach to national development. There is a need for an unbiased debate between the politicians and the academics about the prospects of presidential form of democracy in the country. The poor system of governance is one of the major obstacles that Pakistan faces on its journey towards stability and prosperity. In essence, the presidential system reinforces the idea of a well-functioning democracy. It prioritizes the voice of the people and promotes good governance by freeing legislators to focus on policy and service delivery rather than getting stuck in budgetary matters. Under a presidential system, resource allocation would be decentralized, empowering local communities to manage their budgets with clear oversight and transparency.

We acknowledge that transitioning to a presidential system requires careful consideration. Public education and outreach programs will be crucial to ensure a smooth transition and garner public support. Additionally, a strong system of checks and balances, including an independent judiciary and a vibrant civil society, will be essential to prevent the concentration of power. TJP believes that a presidential system, adapted to Pakistan’s specific context, can usher in a new era of stability, accountability, and progress. By empowering a strong and accountable leader, Pakistan can navigate its challenges more effectively and unlock its full potential, leading to a brighter future for Pakistan.

Small Provinces

Tehrik Jawanan Pakistan (TJP) recognizes the sense of injustice caused by structural disparities among provinces and the lack of opportunity for growth due to unequal resource distribution in different sectors including education, health, energy etc. We aim creating new provinces within existing ones, in order to ensure that all regions have a stronger voice in decision-making. This will not only make governance more accessible to citizens, but also foster development across the entire nation. To further enhance administrative efficiency and support local leadership, we also propose increasing the number of divisions within each province. Our vision is to enable decentralization and increase in local governance structure as this will help in bringing government closer to the people, creating a sense of local ownership and better representation of different regional interests for a positive change. As a result of decentralization, local leaders will be enabled to address their areas’ individual needs and challenges, and people will have greater access tos governance. There will be more chances for the public to interact with local authorities, take part in decision-making, and hold elected officials responsible. This would eventually result in more effective and responsive governance, enhancing the quality of life for all Pakistanis.
